MEC kickstarts programme to hand out school uniforms to needy children in North West

North West MEC for Social Development, Women, Children and People with Disabilities, Mme Mosetsanagape Mokemele-Mothibi, today launched the department’s social assistance programme by handing out school uniforms to 1 000 underpriviliged and deserving school children in Taung today.

Speaking at the Maphoitsile Primary School in the area, MEC Mokomele-Mothibi said that government is very serious and committed to ensuring that it thoroughly invests in the future of young people.

“Therefore, with this handing over of school uniforms to the vulnerable and the poor, we are continuing to ensure that we open the doors learning to all our children as well as creating an enabling environment conducive to learning and teaching,” she added.

“We are taking care of their needs at a very tender age so as to create a platform for future academic excellence in these young people,” MEC Mokomele-Mothibi said.

The MEC will also hand out a further 3000 school uniforms, including school shoes, to children in the other three districts of the North West Province and the programme will continue tomorrow until Friday this week as follows:

  • Wednesday, 19 January 2011 – Zamaukulunga Primary School, Jouberton Township – City of Matlosana
  • Thursday, 20 January 2011 – Tshefoge Primary School, Vaalbosloot Ward 1 in Jericho Village – Madibeng Local Municipality
  • Friday, 21 January 2011 – Bosugakobo Primary School, Dinkona Village – Ramotshere Moiloa Local Municipality

This programme is in pursuit of realising the MEC Mokomele-Mothibi’s objective to provide material support to vulnerable groups and individuals within the communities and one of those is to target needy children in disadvantaged communities.
