MEC Kegakilwe to lead public participation dialogue to be held in Klerksdorp

North West MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Mothibedi Kegakilwe will on Tuesday, 2 March 2010 lead a public participation dialogue between government and relevant stakeholders on issues pertaining to public participation.

This initiative by the national Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs will also look at the following five result areas:
* Ward committee system is functional in accordance with the relevant legislation
* Community members, elected office bearers and local government officials are aware of their participation rights and responsibilities
* The effectiveness of community participation mechanisms in municipal wards is assessed
* Accountability mechanisms are effective in municipal wards
Amongst those expected to take part in the dialogues are the South African Local Government Association North West (SALGA-NW), community development workers (CDWs) as well as representatives from different spheres of government.
