MEC of Health embarks on Ministerial Health campaigns

The MEC for Health in the Northern Cape Province, Mr Mxolisi Sokatsha, would like to take this opportunity to inform the people of Carnarvon, Prieska and Olifantshoek of his planned visits and Ministerial Health campaigns in their respective communities.

The MEC will be in Carnavon on 2 August 2011, Prieska on 10 August 2011 and Olifantshoek on 11 August 2011. All activities will commence at 9h00.

This campaign is the vehicle used by the Honourable MEC Sokatsha to ensure essential health services are delivered free to the people of the Northern Cape and in walking distance from their homes.

Honourable MEC Sokatsha will also visit health facilities in these communities to determine service delivery challenges being faced.

Furthermore, the MEC will through community engagements, inform community members about the health department’s plans, programmes and projects as well as creating the platform for community members to raise health service delivery challenges being faced by them in their respective communities.

Critical to our campaign success requires that we confront the quadruple pandemic:
1. HIV, AIDS, Tuberculosis (TB),Sexually Transmitted Diseases(STI)
2. Maternal, Infant and under-five Mortality
3. Violence and abuse
4. Non-communicable diseases like high blood pressure, heart diseases, diabetes mellitus and cancer

The free health services to be provided will be Oral and Eye clinics, male and female condom distribution, TB screening, HIV counselling and testing, Sugar level testing, Blood pressure testing.

Despite achievements in improving access to health care, however much more still needs to be done in terms of quality of care, making services available to all citizens of our province and ensuring better health outcomes.

We call upon the communities of Carnarvon (2 Aug - 9h00), Prieska (10 Aug- 9h00) and Olifantshoek (11 Aug - 9h00) to support the campaign and access the services to be rendered to ensure we build healthy communities.

Working together, we can do more!
