MEC for Health and Social Development to take part in Mandela Day activities

The MEC for Health and Social Development in Gauteng, Ntombi Mekgwe, will on Monday, 18 July join the country in celebration of Mandela Day at Leratong Hospital and Westbury Recreation Centre.

This day follows a request by the President of the country for the public to spare at least 67 minutes of their time by doing something useful within their communities - especially among the less fortunate.

At Leratong Hospital, MEC will witness cataract operations performed on 93 elderly people from across the province.

The MEC will also have lunch in Westbury with the senior citizens who take care of the orphans in their communities. They will be pampered with massage, manicure and food parcels will be given to disadvantaged child-headed families in the area.

Senior managers from the department will spend the morning at Zanele Mbeki Frail Care Centre in Springs. The activities at the centre will include painting, cleaning and gardening.
