MEC for Transport and Safety Gloria Barry will deliver her first address to the Eastern Cape Justice Crime Prevention and Security (JCPS) cluster at the Telemedia Centre in the Office of the Premier tomorrow, 21 May 2009 at 10am.
By virtue of being the political head of the Department of Safety and Liaison, MEC Barry chairs the forum assisted by the Head of Department Mr Bashir Hoosain.
The Eastern Cape JCPS cluster was launched last December with a purpose of improving co-ordination of safety and security activities.
Its priorities are:
* strengthening the criminal justice system
* crime reduction through community mobilisation
* border control and security
* hands on support to local government
* big events security management (2010 FIFA World Cup)
MEC Barry is further expected to share her vision as the new MEC for Safety and Liaison with the cluster members.
On Thursday morning, she will address the South African Police Service (SAPS) management at Zwelitsha and later meet with the Community Police Forum Provincial Board.
