Eastern Cape MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Ghishma Barry, will officially open three access roads at Kwanonkqubela Township in Alexandria tomorrow, 12 March 2010 at 10h00.
The main event will be held at KwaNonkqubela Township Hall, where MEC Barry is expected to hand over certificates to 30 local people, who were trained on road surfacing, which was accredited by the Construction Education and Training Authority during the construction of the 1 500 meter of access roads.
The surfaced streets include Winnie Madikizela, TC Bethe and Gwashu Street and a total of 40 people were employed during the six months period of construction. The total cost of this project was R1.9 million. MEC Barry is further expected to launch a road ranger’s pilot project, where four people have been employed to patrol with bicycles on the roads such as Boknes Road and R72 to monitor stray animals on these roads.
