MEC Ghishma Barry to launch the Rural Bridges Intervention programme

As part of her 2009 provincial October Transport Month programme, Eastern Cape MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Ghishma Barry, will launch the eagerly awaited Rural Bridges Intervention Programme at Ngcongcolorha Village in Tsomo on Friday, 16 October 2009 at 10h00.

The celebration of this milestone will be held at Mayekiso Secondary School in Ngcongcolorha village, Tsomo. This will mark the erection of the first steel bridge under this intervention programme in South Africa through the United States Army method of bridge construction.

“The main focus of this programme will be on collapsed rural bridges on roads that lead to health facilities, schools, police stations, tourism destinations, and improve the mobility and accessibility of our rural communities,” says MEC Barry.

During the event, MEC Barry is expected to outline the roll-out plan of these bridges in the province, which includes the erection of six bridges in each district.
