Eastern Cape MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Ghishma Barry, will host a second 2010 Safety and Security Summit to ascertain security readiness for the 2010 FIFA World Cup at the Regent Hotel in East London on 5 to 6 November 2009 at 09h00.
This summit follows another one held in 2007 in Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, which has been used as a blueprint for the whole country.
The objectives of the summit include:
- status of preparations of South African Police Service (SAPS) and law enforcement agencies safety and security plans
- readiness of host city 2010 safety plans
- implementation of Safety Volunteer Programmes at identified Public Viewing Areas (PVAs) in the province
- readiness of disaster management plans
