As part of her Safety and Security month (February) Programme, Eastern Cape MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Ms Ghishma Barry, will officially hand over vehicles to the Mdantsane South African Police Service (SAPS) Cluster in the morning of Thursday, 4 February 2010.
This will be done during MEC Barry’s official visit to the Mdantsane Presidential Police Station at Zone One in an effort to:
* monitor police performance within the cluster
* check challenges facing the police
* check the state of readiness for the 2010 FIFA World Cup operations, especially the Public Viewing Area that will be at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium during the tournament
* look at the cluster’s progress in collecting firearms as part of the Firearms Amnesty period
* monitor collaboration with the police and local communities
The visit will only be open to the media, when MEC Barry’s embarks on a station tour at 11h00am in an effort to monitor progress on the building of the new station and the hand over of the new vehicles, followed by a media briefing session.
