MEC Ghishma Barry to deliver a keynote address at the Eastern Cape Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster programme of action workshop

Eastern Cape MEC for Transport and Safety Ghishma Barry will deliver a keynote address at the Provincial Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster Programme of Action Workshop for 2009/10 financial year to be held at the Admiral Hotel in Summerstrand, Port Elizabeth on Monday, 13 July 2009 at 9h00.

The workshop is expected to emerge with a clear programme of action that is in line with the sixth priority of provincial government i.e. intensify the fight against crime and corruption.

A particular focus will be given on:
* Hands-on support to local government crime prevention programmes
* Big events security management in order to emerge with an integrated plan for the 2010 FIFA World Cup
* Intensification of the fight against corruption
* Crime reduction through community mobilisation in an effort to establish strong and vibrant street and village committees throughout the province
* Border control and security in an effort to deal with stock theft, smuggling of firearms, vehicles and drugs; reduction of illegal immigrants and improving refugee registration and to tighten marine and airspace protection
* Rural safety
* Refugees co-ordination programme
