MEC Ghishma Barry to address provincial Driver of The Year awards ceremony in Mthatha

Eastern Cape MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison Ms Ghishma Barry, will address the provincial Driver of the Year Awards ceremony to be held at the OR Tambo Hall in Mthatha on Saturday, 15 August 2009 at 18h00.

This ceremony will mark the conclusion of the provincial phase of the Driver of the Year (DOTY) competition, which attracted 62 drivers, including women and youth, following companies and district competitions that attracted more than 300 bus and truck drivers since May 2009. The winners will form a team that will represent the Eastern Cape in the national competition to be held in Limpopo province on 19 to 23 October 2009.

The DOTY competition is an annual competition which is run by the Department of Transport together with the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) in partnership with business and freight industry/companies. It is run from the in-house, sub-district, district, provincial, national and international level.

DOTY is aimed at improving and enhancing driving skills of heavy motor vehicle drivers, while simultaneously preventing and reducing accidents involving heavy motor vehicles.
