MEC Creecy to announce Gauteng matric results

The Gauteng MEC for Education, Ms Barbara Creecy will on 6 January 2011 officially announce the 2010 grade 12 results and award bursaries to top learners in the province. The announcement ceremony will take place at 10h00 (guests to arrive at 09h30) at the Linder Auditorium, Wits Education Campus in Parktown. About 117,097 learners sat for the 2010 matric exams in 793 centres throughout the province in 2010.

While there are many avenues for learners to receive their results such as newspapers and mobile phone services, learners should also go to their schools to collect their statement of results. The statement of results will be available from 8h00 on Thursday morning.

When the results come out, there will be those who passed and those who failed. Some will inevitably be disappointed that they have not done as well as they would have liked. We would like to encourage them not to be worried, upset, or despair. All is not lost. Learners can ask for a remark or write supplementary examinations. Details on how to apply for a remark or to write a supplementary examination are available on the back of the statement of results.

Learners can also repeat the whole year and our Abet (Adult Based Education and Training) centres will be running the National Senior Certificate programme from the beginning of January 2011.

Teachers are also trained in career guidance and can offer advice. If learners need someone to talk to, they can contact Lifeline on 0861 322 322.
