MEC Creecy and Blue Bulls tackle drugs in Tshwane

The Gauteng MEC for Education Ms Barbara Creecy will on Monday, 8 August 2011 join the Blue Bulls rugby union in Hammanskraal to encourage learners to stay away from drugs.

The Blue Bulls will introduce about 4 000 learners from the five Tshwane districts to Touch Rugby and Tag Rugby at township and rural schools. This programme will target both primary school and secondary school learners.

The activities will start from 8am at the Hammanskraal Sports Complex and learners will sign public pledges to stay drug free throughout their schooling years. They will also pledge to lead by example in their schools, the District, the Cluster, in public and in their communities.

The programme will involve learners in after-school activities that will focus their energies on sport, music, dance, indigenous games and board games. Some learners in the region have dropped out of school because of their addiction to Nyaope - a concoction of second grade/ cheap heroin, dagga and sometimes rat poison.
