MEC Carlisle to inspect West Coast roads, address farmers unions and municipalities

Robin Carlisle, the MEC for Transport and Public Works in the Western Cape will tomorrow, 27 July 2011, inspect four West Coast roads and road projects, and address farmers’ unions and representatives from the local and district municipalities on the region’s roads.

The MEC will arrive at the first inspection site, the intersection of the R27 and R315 (Darling/Yzerfontein road), at 09h00 tomorrow morning.

After inspecting another three roads in the region, the MEC will address representatives of the local and district municipality and farmers unions at the Moorreesburg Golf Club, at 12h00.

All events:

Inspection one: 

Meet at the intersection of the R27 and R315 (Darling/Yzerfontein road) at 09h00.

Inspection two:

About 20 kilometres further down the R27 the MEC, accompanied by head office and regional officials, will inspect a sand dune advancing towards the road. 

Inspection three:

Approximately 27 kilometres further on turn left towards Langebaan (Main Road 233), where the Minister will inspect the upgrade, from a gravel road to surface standard (tar), with the contractor and consultant. A cup of tea will be served at the site office.

Inspection four:

Proceed through Vredenburg to the road to Velddrift, where the Minister will inspect another reseal (tarring) contract.

Meeting:

  • Cross the R27 again and proceed to Hopefield on the Main Rd 234. From Hopefield drive to Moorreesburg, where the MEC will address the local and district municipality representatives and representatives of the farmers unions about the conditions of tarred and gravel roads in the West Coast region
  • The Regional Manager of the West Coast District office of the department will then deliver a presentation on how the department maintains the roads in the region, while the Chief Director of the Roads Department will talk about capital projects in the region, going forward
  • At 14h00 there will be a ‘discussion of issues from the floor’

The ministerial visit will be concluded at 15h30.
