MEC Capa to officially hand over access road to which has never had one

The MEC for Rural Development and Agrarian Reform Zoleka Capa will officially hand over access road to the community of Emphindweni village which has never had a decent access road, which made the village which is 7km from the main road between Stutterheim and Cathcath virtually inaccessible by vehicles.

The landmark launch of the road is part of the department’s programme of ensuring provision of infrastructure to rural areas to enable them to be able to form part of the economic development programmes in the Province.

Before the building of the road by the department, the only way to access the village was on foot or donkey – vehicles could not get into the village.

The department – as the champions of ensuring development of sustainable, vibrant and equitable rural communities – will engage its sister department to ensure further development of the area including, but not limited to supplying electricity, schools, clinics and water and sanitation

After being approached by a Stutterheim-based businessman and the community about their plan to cultivate 50ha of land which has access to water from Kei River, the department built the access road not only to the farm but to the community as part of broader development.

There will also be handing over of gardening tools to the community as well as clothes for destitute children.

Members of the media are hereby invited to attend this hand over of the road, which is the first to be built by the department.
