MEC Barry to demonstrate Eastern Cape's state of readiness for the 2010 FIFA World Cup

Eastern Cape MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Ghishma Barry will have a guided tour in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro to confirm the state of readiness for the 2010 FIFA World Cup tomorrow morning at 9h00.

MEC Barry will have a guided tour of the fan park at St George's stadium to inspect its venue operational centre, the Joint Operation Centre and Fan Mile.

This tour will be followed by a meeting with various law enforcement agencies, which will also be attended by the municipality's councillor Bicks Ndoni and the South African Police Service (SAPS) Provincial Commissioner, General Mpumelelo Landu at the Disaster Management Centre in Port Elizabeth.

The meeting is expected to brief MEC Barry on various issues, which include, amongst others:

* plan to protect street children and curbing human trafficking
* threat analysis and risk assessment
* public viewing areas safety patrollers
* safety measures at airports, ports of entry and train stations
* crowd control
* contingency plans for Bus Rapid Transport (BRT).
