The MEC for Rural Development and Agrarian Reform Ms Zoleka Capa is furious after she found more than 2 000 bags of fertilizer and maize seeds lying unused for the last two years in the poverty-stricken village of Mgababa in Peddie.
The villagers informed the MEC that their land has been lying unused while she was shown tons and tons of these inputs. That made the MEC to call members of the media to witness this wasteful expenditure while the piles are there.
The inputs were inside and outside the wall and the MEC felt “like crying when I saw the waste".
The MEC felt this should be exposed because the “grief” of the community should told to the public while the Department investigates the matter.
She says the situation will “rescued” by quickly sending tractors to the area.
Members of the media are urged to join the MEC today (Thursday, 26 January 2012) as she will be joined by the internal auditors to assess the value of the inputs. The MEC will be in Mgababa village at about 12 noon today.
The MEC feels that members of the media should not only be called by government to cover only positive stories but feels that they should be engaged in negative matters as well so that a solution can be found.
