MEC Albert Fritz and MEC Nomafrench Mbombo conduct Youth Day walkabout, 15 Jun

Due to unforeseen circumstances and unfavourable weather conditions, the event has been postponed until further notice. Apologies for the inconvenience.

On Monday 15 June 2015, Western Cape Social Development Minister, Mr Albert Fritz and Health Minister, Dr Nomafrench Mbombo, will conduct a walkabout to speak to young people ahead of Youth Day.

The two ministers will take to the streets going door-to-door, to speak to young people about the services the Western Cape Government offers them.

Our young people are under siege. It is important that they are armed with the knowledge of all our services like Youth Cafés and academies. The Western Cape Government aims to provide useful and engaging alternatives for young people so that they may be safe from risky behaviour like violence and substance abuse.

Our country is shocked every day by reports of the needless and horrific deaths of young children. Daily, social workers and healthcare workers deal with young people whose lives have been wrecked by substance abuse and communities have been gripped by fear due to the prevalence of gang violence.

The war on young people can only be stopped when all stakeholders in our society work together. This is the message that the two ministers will be taking to the young people of Rocklands and surrounding areas.

There will be opportunities for interviews and photographs.

Date: 15 June 2015
Time: 10h30
Venue: Rocklands Youth Café, Shop 15, Rocklands Shopping Centre, c/o Caravelle Road & Park Avenue, Rocklands, Mitchells Plain.
