The Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Ms Nelisiwe Mbatha-Mthimkulu, will deliver the keynote address at the first general meeting of the Gauteng Sports Council this coming Saturday, 1 August 2009 at the Johannesburg Stadium.
The meeting will serve as an information sharing session with provincial sports organisations and stakeholders on affairs of the Council. The Council was launched earlier this year in March with the objective to allow for the promotion of sport development across a broader spectrum of people; transform the sector demographically; and to support high and competitive sport performance.
Delegates to this meeting will include sport structures, regional sport councils, provincial/regional federations, school sport, SASSU and local government.
“The sport structures must play a role in building local level sport, in assisting government with the roll-out of local sports clubs and school sport. They also need to drive transformation in all sporting codes and the sport sector as a whole”, says MEC Mbatha-Mthimkulu.
