Mdladlana visits farm workers in Citrusdal

Labour Minister, Membathisi Mdladlana will hold a public participation meeting with farm workers in the Citrusdal area on Sunday, 4 July 2010.

This programme is in line with the department's vision of ensuring constant consultation with communities on how best to address challenges faced by workers.

The visit comes hot on the heels of the recent provincial farm inspections which saw an under par compliance rate with labour laws by farms visited in Citrusdal complying with labour laws.

This low level of compliance has contributed to an unsatisfactory Western Cape compliance rate.

In light of this, the minister deemed it necessary to afford farm workers in Citrusdal an opportunity to raise their concerns directly with him.

The minister hopes that this exercise will empower workers to know their rights and be able to effectively engage their employers on labour related issues.
