The Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr. Paul Mashatile and Deputy Minister Joe Phaahla kindly invite you to a Budget Vote media networking session. The Ministers wish to use the Budget Vote networking session to share his ideas for the arts, culture and heritage sector with the media and other stakeholders. Minister Mashatile will discuss his new vision for the arts, referred to as the Mzansi’s Golden Economy to the media and indicate how he intends to use the allocated budget to achieve the objectives set.
The Budget Vote follows the Consultative conference that took place recently in Johannesburg. At the end of the conference, representatives of government (led by Minister Mashatile and Deputy Minister Joe Phaahla), business, labour and civil society; managers and practitioners in the arts, culture and heritage sector, committed to a 10 - point strategy that seeks to reposition the sector into a leading economic driver, job creation and a vehicle for social cohesion.
Among other things, they agreed to establish a Skills Academy, develop Cultural Precincts and establish an Art Bank. The strategy (with specific deadlines) is poised to revolutionise the creative sector and attract new public and private investment. Minister Mashatile will use the Budget Vote media networking session to announce progress made so far and discuss upcoming programmes meant to help achieve the objectives of the strategy.
