Mandela Day celebration in Matlwangtlwang, Steynsrus

The Free State Executive Council, under the banner of Operation Hlasela, will be painting, cleaning and refurbishing schools and clinics, as well providing basics to children in need, as part the celebration of Nelson Mandela Day on Sunday, 18 July 2010.

Premier Ace Magashule will lead the Mandela Day campaign with a visit to the community of Matlwangtlwang, Steynsrus in support of the icon who selflessly contributed to social activism for a period spanning 67 years.

Premier Magashule and his delegation will dirty their hands cleaning and painting the JMB Primary School. They will also help clean the house of 98-year old granny, who is turning 99 on 21 July.

Premier Magashule and his delegation of MECs will hand over 30 Bonsmara cattle and four bulls to Land Redistribution for Agricultural Development (LRAD) farmers, two ambulances, a mobile clinic, 11 wheelchairs, food parcels and sewing machines to the community of Steynsrus.

Premier Magashule will also officially open new hall at Matlwangtlwang Secondary School. Speaking ahead of the event, Premier Magashule called on the people of Free State to commit 67 minutes of their time to help change the world around them as part of Mandela Day campaign. Mandela turns 92 on Sunday.
