Makgoe launches Learner Registration and Admission campaign

Free State Department of Education MEC; Tate Makgoe will on Thursday, 9 September 2010 launch the Learner Registration and Admission to Public Schools campaign in Virginia, Marematlou Secondary School at 10h00.

The purpose of the campaign is to ensure that all learners' particularly first timers are registered on time to be able to start with the process of learning and teaching on the first day of the reopening of school in 2011.

The department will be embarking on vigorous campaigns across the province sensitising all stakeholders about the importance of registering on time to avoid any unnecessary delays and counteracting any unforeseen circumstances that might hamper the learning and teaching process during the year.

The success of the campaign depends on the positive response and responsibilities to be taken by all stakeholders especially parents, to heed the call and register their children on time.

The registration period starts between 1 August and 30 November 2010.

The admission age for a first time learner to public school is: four years turning five by 30 June in the year (2011) of admission for Grade R and five years turning six by 30 June in the year (2011) of admission for Grade 1.

Parents are encouraged to register their children in schools nearer to their homes to avoid a hassle of finding another school.

The following documents are required for registration: birth certificate, immunisation card, transfer or last school report for learners who have been to school and study permits for foreign learners.

The department will not allow any discrimination of any learner not based on education policy not to be registered.

The media is invited to attend.
