local government inaugural indaba 2011

The MEC for the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Madala Masuku will host a three day local government inaugural indaba for all newly elected councillors. The indaba is aimed to mark the beginning of the current term of councillors after the local government elections on 18 May 2011.

The indaba will seek to give a shared understanding of local government achievements and create an understanding of the key priorities for the next term of local government in terms of national outcomes. The indaba will also seek to strengthen council’s functionality.

Premier DD Mabuza will deliver the keynote address. The indaba will be attended by Members of the Executive Council, all 973 newly elected councillors, the leadership of the House of Traditional leaders, municipal Managers and all senior municipal officials, South African Local Government Association (SALGA) and representatives from all local government stakeholders.

The media is invited to attend the opening session of the indaba as well as a media briefing which is scheduled as follows:
