PACOFS (Performing Arts Centre of the Free State) in partnership with The Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation will be staging Live Wire Explosion at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown from the 28th June until 9th July 2012.
The group was formed after travelling to various towns around five (5) Free State Districts in search of skilled and talented Free State artists. The successful candidates were work shopped by professional dancers and choreographers. After these workshops the final selections were made, where 12 dancers were then selected to join the already existing Live Wire Cast, to form the Live Wire Explosion.
Live Wire Explosion is the journey of music that focuses on South African history. It reflects the era of the 70s with the concentration on migrant labour and the culture of Gumboots dance; the pop culture of the 80s with the flamboyant culture and attitude. It then goes on to portray the 90s with the political dynamics changes in South Africa and finally the present 2000s life style.
At this current stage 22 dancers, 5 band members and 2 choreographers from various towns around the Free State are hosted by PACOFS while they are busy rehearsing before they hit the road to the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown on the 27th June 2012. This group has shown determination to present a production that will leave the audience mesmerised.
