The Limpopo Department of Agriculture in partnership with Progress Milling has arranged a Grain Production Symposium. This symposium aims at reviving the grain production which is going down in the Limpopo province.
Stakeholders, particularly the private sector, traditional leadership as the custodian of communal land, Universities of Limpopo and Venda as well as government, the Limpopo Department of Agriculture in particular, will strengthen private public partnership in their mission to revive grain production in the province.
The symposium will work out plans geared towards making lands which lay fallow productive. After finding possible solutions to the challenge of unused land, the next phase will involve farmers so that they could look at the resolutions taken at the symposium and bring their possible solutions to the challenge. It is envisaged that these possible solutions combined will make sure the levels of grain production in the province is increased.
Communal land farmers, beneficiaries of the Land Reform programme will be the main target. This is due to the fact that the grain production in the communal land and the ancestral land which communities acquired through land restitution has gone down.
Omnia (fertilisers), Trade and Investment Limpopo (TIL), Land Bank and Sasol (fertilisers) are some of the organisations that will participate in this initiative.
Limpopo Agriculture MEC, Ms Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba will give the keynote address.
