The Limpopo’s National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) is planning to work tirelessly in getting youth to be ready for the coming local government elections. This follows the low recent voters’ registration number which the NYDA believes can be improved.
The independent Electoral Commission (IEC) reports that 53.7 percent of young people aged 20 to 29 in the country have registered to vote in the next coming Local Government elections, and that this year elections has seen an increase of 6 percent of voting stations in the country.
The NYDA, together with the IEC and the Department of Home Affairs will host the Youth ID Yourself and Youth Election campaign from 2 March 2011 to 22 April 2011.
The campaign focuses on mobilising youth to:
- collect their ID’s
- educate them about the electoral laws
- create a culture of Patriotism and selfless contribution to the country
- increase youth Participation in the democratic process
Through this campaign, the NYDA hopes to reach more than 50 000 young people through advertisements, public participation programmes, School visits, Malls and Shopping centres information sharing and visits to Tertiary Institution in the province.
The campaign will be launched in Mopani District Municipality, Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality (Lulekani Community Hall) on 2 March 2011.
Limpopo Provincial Government is proud to announce Mr Shonisani (Ashifashaba) Muleya as an Ambassador of youth Voter Mobilisation Programme.
