Health and Social Development MEC Dr Norman Mabasa will tomorrow address the community at Mphephu Mental Health Day.
The Mphephu Traditional Council and Masana Social Development and Training, in partnership with the Department of Health and Social Development, embarked on this project to help people living with mental illnesses last year.
Mabasa said it is important to raise awareness and educate the public about mental health to ensure acceptance and tolerance in our communities.
“The role of family and communities in the recovery process should be to assist patients to take medication as instructed by a health worker, to establish peer support groups, encourage healthy living, including physical exercise & healthy diet and give them meaningful tasks to perform and so forth,” he said.
Mabasa is also expected to present certificates to Mental Health Care Users (MHCU), who have received training in computer skills, occupational health and safety, business management and first aid.
