Limpopo Health MEC to lead World Alzheimer's Day Commemoration

The face of Alzheimer's disease which is common but unknown to many people will change as the MEC for Health and Social Development, Dikeledi Magadzi this week, Wednesday, 21 September lead a World Alzheimer's Day commemoration service at Bakenberg stadium outside Mokopane.

Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia, a collective name for conditions in which progressive degeneration of the brain affects memory, thinking, behaviour and emotion.

Symptoms of Alzheimer's disease include but not limited to the following:

  • Loss of memory
  • Difficulty in finding right words or understanding
  • Inability and or difficulty to perform routine tasks
  • Personality and mood changes.

"Most people do not know about Alzheimer's diseases and we therefore needs to expose this diseases to our communities so that we are able to detect if any person amongst us is suffering from it. This will assist us to assist those who need medical help as dementia is not a normal part of ageing," Magadzi said.
