Limpopo Health MEC Dikeledi Magadzi, to join in the fight against Cancer

The fight against cancer will be intensified as Limpopo Health MEC Dikeledi Magadzi in partnership with the Limpopo Cancer Hospital embark on a Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) Relay for Health this week in Polokwane as part of the massive prevention and control programme for non-communicable diseases launched recently.

"We want to urge all members of society to take serious care of their health and during the CANSA Relay for Health, the Department of Health will provide a number of services including comprehensive health checks. We will further advice women and provide practical tips on how to conduct self-breast lump checks as we believe that early detection can be controlled", Magadzi said.

Magadzi says although treatment for cancer depending on stage and type is available, "we must also focus our attention and energy on prevention and we therefore call upon all our people to conduct regular health checks at our facilities" even when they do not feel sick as 'prevention is indeed better than cure'.

MEC Magadzi encourages people to join the CANSA Relay for Health taking place as follows:
Date: 14 to 15 October 2011
Time: 6h00 to 18h00
Venue: Pietersburg Hoer Skool
