Limpopo CoGHSTA to hand over title deeds

The MEC for the Department of Co-operative Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs, Mr Clifford Motsepe will be handing over 881 Title Deeds to the community of Bela-Bela.

The government has through the Housing code introduced the Enhanced Extended Discount Benefit Scheme which aims to facilitate the transfer of pre-1994 houses to deserving beneficiaries. The pre-1994 era provided historically disadvantaged communities with 99 years lease agreement scheme while rental of property meant that residents could not become owners of property. They were not allowed to sell, transfer and mortgaged the houses.

The Housing Act of 1997 makes a provision for a housing code which elaborates the transfer of ownership of government owned residential properties in townships to approved needy families. In the spirit of business unusual, the department has brought about change in the lives of the people of Limpopo province.

The handing over of the title deeds is part of government's effort to restore the dignity of the people and promote home ownership.
