Limpopo to celebrate nguni cattle expansion

The Limpopo Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) Nguni Cattle Development Trust will be celebrating nguni cattle redistribution. On this day, the Limpopo IDC Nguni Cattle Development Trust will be receiving loan cattle reimbursed by farmers who benefited from the project in 2007 and 2008. This is due to the fact that the Nguni cattle project is run in a form of cattle loan scheme whereby farmers are loaned a herd of 30 pregnant Nguni cattle and a bull for five years. Within the five years, farmers are required to reimburse equivalent number of cattle in quantity and quality to the Trust.

The project has performed exceptionally well to an extent that the farmers have started reimbursing their cattle loan in 2½ years, hence this celebration. The reimbursed animals will be passed on to the new beneficiaries, living up to its founding principle of "pass on the gift". The MEC Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba, the Vice Chancellor for the University of Limpopo and CEO for the IDC will officially receive the reimbursed cattle and pass them on to new beneficiaries.

The project is a tripartite partnership between the Industrial Development Corporation of SA Limited, University of Limpopo and Limpopo Department of Agriculture and farmers are the main stakeholders. This project which was founded in February 2006 is a living testimony to the slogan "together we will do more".
