Leeuwkop Maximum Correctional Centre to launch a living for future clinic for inmates

The Department of Correctional Services has made a steadily progress in the implementation of anti HIV and AIDS strategy. To date the department has achieved the following:

  • An effective voluntary and counselling services across all the correctional centres
  • Nineteen (19) accredited ARV sites in correctional services nationally with more to be rolled out during the course of this financial year
  • A strong peer education campaign is in place nationally.

Adding on this achievement Leeuwkop Correctional Centre (Prison) will launch a living for future clinic on Wednesday, 20 July 2011 to ensure delivery of effective healthcare services to inmates and easyaccess to medication. The event will be co officiated by the Chief Deputy Commissioner (CDC) of Development and Care Ms Nontsikelelo Jolingana and the representatives from the Department of Health from Gauteng Provincial Government and non-governmental organisation (NGO) Aurum. The clinic is currently servicing more than 100 inmates based on referrals from the outside hospitals.
