Launch of the Winter Relief Programme

Poverty remains one of the key challenges facing government. Rising food prices have put a huge burden on the budgets of many poor households, but it is the poor who spend a disproportionate amount of their meagre income on food, so it hits them the hardest.

The Department of Social Development has in place a number of interventions to assist the poorest of the poor during the cold winter days. One of these is to ensure that identified vulnerable persons and families throughout the province are supplied with blankets and food parcels to keep them warm and to ensure that they are not hungry during this period.

The Winter Relief Programme will be launched by the MEC for Social Development: Mr Alvin Botes at a media briefing at the:

Venue: Ambassadors Lodge Kimberley
Date: 31 May 2012
Time: 14h00

The media is hereby invited to attend the launch of the Winter Relief Programme.
