More than 2 400 new patients and 25 000 follow-up patients with various diagnoses of cancer are seen annually. Outreach clinics are hosted bi-weekly in Kroonstad, Welkom and Bethlehem. Multi-disciplinary teams meet weekly to discuss diagnoses to advise and assist patients on decision making regarding their cancer treatment.

Patients receive chemotherapy and radiation with radical and palliative intent.

Members at the unit function as a multi-disciplinary team and are patient and service orientated. So much so that the renovations, upgrades and new facilities with beautiful gardens were made possible by the dedication of the staff, supported by funding from National Treasury, the provincial Department of Health, University of the Free State: Medical Faculty, Research fund of the Department of Oncology, Harmony Mines, Merck Serono, Tema Medical and donations from Lilly, Publicis, Joe Black, Danis Langdon and Goldblatt-Yuill Architecs.
