Marking a crucial step for the successful implementation of wind energy in South Africa, Deputy Minister of Energy, Ms Barbara Thompson will launch the first verified Numerical Wind Atlas for South Africa on Tuesday, 13 March 2012.
The immediate objectives of this Numerical Wind Atlas are to improve knowledge and quality of wind resource assessment methods and tools, as well as to ensure availability of tools and data for planning and application for wind farm developments, offâgrid electrification and extreme wind studies.
The Deputy Minister will be joined by amongst others, the Ambassador of Denmark in South Africa, Dan E Frederiksen and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Resident Coordinator, Agostinho Zacarias.
