The launch of energy month has been postponed. A new date will be communicated in due course.
The Department of Energy invites members of the media to join the South African Minister of Energy, Ms Dipuo Peters, to the official launch of the Energy Month.
In December 2010, the United Nations General Assembly declared 2012 the Year of Sustainable Energy Access for All, in recognition that access to affordable modern energy services is essential for sustainable development and for the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.
The International Year of Sustainable Energy Access for All presents a valuable opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of increasing access to energy, energy efficiency, and renewable energy. It is a call to promote action on energy issues at the local, national, regional and International levels towards internationally agreed development goals.
In line with the UN call, Minister Peters has declared the month of March, the Energy Month. The Minister will launch the Energy Month on 1 March 2012 in Cape Town. Furthermore, the Department of Energy will embark on a number of activities in throughout the month.
