Launch of Community Residential Units (CRU) to expand access to housing in Tlokwe continues

North West MEC Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono, is to continue with the launch construction of 100 CRU at a sod turning ceremony in an effort to expand access to housing to accommodate 400 people.

The project initiated in partnership with Tlokwe Local Municipality, will also improve the living conditions of the people and further to reduce the housing backlog in the province.

The CRU, which aims to facilitate the provision of secure, stable rental tenure for lower income persons and provide a coherent framework for dealing with the many different forms of existing public sector residential accommodation, will target persons and households earning between R800 and R3500 per month, who are not able to be accommodated in the formal private rental and social housing market.

The Executive Mayor of Tlokwe Local Municipality, Councillor Maphetle Maphetle, is expected to co-officiate with MEC Mohono at the event which was initially scheduled for last Thursday 15 September 2011.
