Date: 12 March 2010
Time: 09h00 to 13h30
The Centre for Energy and Electrical Power will give staff members at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) an opportunity to do researches on the energy sector which was recently faced with challenges in meeting its demand and supply balance, a situation which resulted in blackouts throughout the country.
The status of the environment and increasing climate change have also intensified over the last few years resulting in greatly renewed interest in the provision of sustainable energy with associated interests in energy efficiency, which is one of the Department of Energy’s key policies.
As a result of the above trends, opportunities to pursue research and contract work within the energy field, particularly in the electrical energy, are increasing.
In addition, the national energy utility, Eskom, which generates about 95 percent of the country’s power, is committed to developing more sustainable energy resources as well as dramatically increasing energy efficiency and reducing customer demand through demand side management (DSM).
Staff members participating in this exciting opportunity at TUT, will be able to fulfil their core teaching functions at the university, as well as generating additional income for the institution and address the needs of the society. The provision of energy is essential to government’s goals of poverty reduction.
