Land Care Awareness Day in Alfred Nzo

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development continues its strides in bringing service delivery to the people. Eastern Cape Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in partnership with Afred Nzo District Municipality and Umzimvubu Local Municipality will be hosting a Land Care Awareness Day on 18 November 2009, in Phakade Community Hall 20 kilometres from Kokstad Town along N2 road.

The theme for the Land Care event is to raise awareness of land care amongst the community of Mzimvubu Local Municipality youth farmers those that are in and out of school, together with the communal, commercial farmers around the Municipality.

The area is characterised by poverty increase, high level of unemployment, problem of soil degradation, overstocking, poor veldt management, and extreme weather conditions. The area of Mzimvubu Municipality has been chosen because of its disadvantageous background, and its enormous livestock increase in the district population.

This initiative will provide a platform for organised agriculture, youth, organisations and all levels of governance and provide ample opportunity for stakeholders to exchange views and share experience on land care intervention at Mzimvubu Local Municipality.

Details of the event are as follows:
Date: 18 November 2009
Time: 10h00
Venue: Phakade Community Hall in Kokstad
