Land and Environmental Affairs Committee visits KZN and Eastern Cape

Parliament's Select Committee on Land and Environmental Affairs is this week, 28 February - 2 March 2012 visiting various municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape to assess progress in the provision of quality basic water to rural communities.

The aim of the oversight visit is to assess progress made by the Departments of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and Rural Development and Land Reform in implementing the Comprehensive Agricultural Support Programme (CASP) and the Comprehensive Rural Development Programme (CRDP), respectively.

The committee would therefore investigate the implementation of these two programmes as well as the provision of quality basic water to rural communities.

The projects to be visited are located in the following municipalities: Umzimkhulu in KwaZulu-Natal, and Port St Johns, Nyandeni and Mnquma in the Eastern Cape.
