Labour Minister, Mildred Oliphant, is to solidify relations with two of the key social dialogue partners, the Federation of Unions of South Africa (Fedusa) and the National Council of Trade Unions (NACTU) in a meeting on Wednesday, 1 December.
The meeting, scheduled to be held in Pretoria, will afford the labour unions an opportunity to meet the newly appointed Minister. It comes hot on the heels of a similar interaction she has already had with the one million member Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu).
All three federations are key members of National Economic Development and Labour Council (Nedlac) a forum for social dialogue which has been hailed the world over for promoting tripartism that involves labour, government and business.
“It is my wish to express my views to all social partners and promote social dialogue on matters of mutual concern. We have to build on the work that has been done by Nedlac and ensure that we improve the conditions of workers in line with the International Labour
Organisation’s (ILO) Decent Work Agenda, which seeks to ensure a healthy and safe working environment as well as workplaces conducive to productivity,” she said.
Oliphant is also planning to host a meeting with the Business Community. She will be accompanied by her top brass at tomorrow’s meeting.
