South Africa’s Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant wishes to invite the media to the official launch of the long-awaited 12th Commission for Employment Equity (CEE) Annual Report entitled - “Bridging The Equity Gap - creating equitable workplaces that are free from unfair discrimination”.

The report will reflect on the status of employment equity in South Africa covering the period from 1 April 2011 to 31 March 2012. This year’s report will focus on the information received from large employers as employers with fewer than 150 employees (i.e. small employers) are expected to submit reports to the Department of Labour (DoL) every two years.

This year’s report comes hot on the heels of the recent conclusion by the National Economic Development and Labour Council of discussions on the amendment of the Employment Equity legislation.

The key components highlighted in the report are the road travelled in order to create equitable workplaces that are free from unfair discrimination, the review and amendment of HIV/Aids and TB Codes of Good Practice and Technical Assistance Guidelines.

The report will further unveil with matters on the workforce population distribution; race and gender representation; comparison of trends between private and public sector; progress or lack thereof made in regard to empowerment of people living with disabilities.

The media briefing to launch the EE report will be held as follows:
Date: 30 August 2012
Time: 9h00-11h00
Venue: Ground Floor, Committee Room 1, at 120 Plein Street, Cape Town

NB: Journalists can also participate in the media briefing via a video link at Pretoria’s GCIS Auditorium, 1st Floor Midtown Building Corner Sisulu (Prinsloo) and Madiba (Vermeulen Streets).
