Labour hosts Thongathi Mall Commission of Inquiry proceedings, 17 to 19 Nov

An Engineer who designed the doomed Thongathi Mall is expected to take a stand next week, 17 to 19 October 2014, during the next sitting of the Inquiry investigating the structural collapse of the Mall.

Andre Ballack, the Engineer from Axion Consulting Engineers, who was responsible for the structural design of the Mall is to give further testimony on the results of the tests done following the collapse of the Mall.

The Tongaat Mall Commission of Inquiry was appointed following the structural collapse of the mall that led to the death of two workers and injury to 29. The Section 32 hearing was instituted by the Department of Labour in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act - to gather evidence on negligence that may have resulted in occupational injuries and death of workers.

The Commission is held at the North Coast Town’s Municipal offices in Thongathi. The  proceedings begin at 09h00.
