Johannesburg municipal by-election

The Gauteng Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) will on Wednesday, 8 July conduct a by-election for Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipal Council. The by-election will be held in ward 90 Sandton.

The vacancy came as a result of the redeployment of a Democratic Alliance (DA) ward councillor. The parties contesting this by-election are the Africa National Congress (ANC) and Democratic Alliance (DA). The by-election was proclaimed by the MEC of Local Government and Housing in the provincial gazette on the 29 May.

Subsequent to the proclamation was the registration of voters on the 22 to 23 May. There are currently 15 400 registered voters in ward 90. The ward consists of four voting stations, namely Craighall Primary School, George lea sports club, Hyde Park high school, Rosebank bowling club. Top of form all the voting stations will open at 07h00 and close at 21h00.
