Ishashalazi Theatre Festival goes to Hammanskraal

Hundreds of people from Hammanskraal and the surrounding areas are expected to converge at Nelson Mandela Square for the Ishashalazi Theatre Festival this coming Saturday.

Ishashalazi Theatre Festival is collaboration between the Gauteng Theatre Practitioners Committee and the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation. The festival, which is intended at showcasing the best in development theatre, has been running from the 18 February in different venues across the province and it will culminate on 27 March 2011.

“As the custodians of arts and culture in Gauteng we have committed to not only growing and nurturing talent in the industry, but also creating a platform for artists and performers to blossom and to showcase their creative works and abilities, and we believe that it is part of the initiatives by the department that will enable us to do that,” said MEC Lebogang Maile.

One group participating in the Ishashalazi Theatre Festival stands an opportunity to be part of the 2011 Grahamstown National Arts Festival, with all expenses paid by the department.
