Invitation to a public lecture by Professor Joseph Stiglitz hosted by the Economic Development Department in partnership with the Mail and Guardian

World renowned economist and Nobel Laureate Professor Joseph Stiglitz is visiting South Africa briefly during the week of 17 January 2011 and hosted for part of his stay by the Minister of Economic Development, Minister Ebrahim Patel.Professor Stiglitz will participate in a meeting of the Economic Advisory Panel during his visit.

Professor Stiglitz has also agreed to give a public lecture to be held on Monday, 17 January 2011, to be chaired by Professor Richard Levin, Director-General, Economic Development Department (EDD).I would like to invite you to attend.

Topic: The challenges of climate change, the economic development opportunities for South Africa and the region and the need for national and international action.

Professor Stiglitz will speak for 30 to 45 minutes and a panel of discussants from business, labour and academia will respond.
