Invitation to the opening ceremony of the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Co-operation Organisation (SARPCCO) annual general meeting

The South African Police Service, under the stewardship of South African Police Services (SAPS) National Commissioner Bheki Cele, will host the high-powered 14th annual general meeting (AGM)of the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (SARPCCO) from 30 August 2009 to 4 September 2009 at Emperor's Palace, Gauteng.

During the ceremony National Commissioner Bheki Cele will take over chairmanship of SARPCCO and will receive the office sword from the outgoing chairperson, Inspector General S H Ndeitunga of Namibia.

National Commissioner Cele will chair SARPCCO for the period of one year and the South African Minister of Police, Mr Nathi Mthethwa, will chair the Council of Ministers of SARPCCO during the same period.

The council of police chiefs of 13 Southern African countries, including South Africa, will workshop their respective reports, focusing on cross-border and regional crime combating initiatives as well as coordinated cooperation between countries. A consolidated report will then be presented to the Council of Ministers of member countries on Friday 4 September 2009.

Members of the news media are cordially invited to attend the official opening ceremony on Wednesday, 2 September 2009, between 08h30 and 11h00 at the Senate room at Emperor's Palace. A press conference will be held immediately after the opening ceremony.
