Invitation of the official opening ceremony of the 2011 SWIRMO and joint exercise at the military academy

On Monday, 27 June 2011, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Vice President, Ms Christine Beerli together with the Chief of Human Resources, Lieutenant General Derrick Mgwebi will officially declare the 2011 Senior Workshop on International Rules Governing Military Operation (SWIRMO) open during the opening ceremony at the Military Academy, Saldanha, West coast. 

Members of the media are advised to arrive at 10h00 for 10h30 to allow the process of accreditation to take place since the opening ceremony is scheduled for 11h00, followed by an official group photo and Question and Answer session with the media. 

On Wednesday, 29 Jun 11, the delegates will witness a joint exercise in North Bay adjacent to the Military academy. The exercise entails a ship boarding hostage release exercise by four Special forces regiment and will be supported by the South African Air Force, South African Military Health Services (SAMHS), Military Police and South African Police Services. Lessons in the Law of Armed Conflict will be staged for educational purposes as part of the SWIRMO program. The Silver Falcons will conclude the afternoon with an aerobatic display of precision flying.
