The Eastern Cape Department of Social Development cordially invites you to join in as the department kick-starts the Child Protection Week which will culminate to the commemoration of the International Children’s Day at Alfred Nzo Municipality, on 1 June 2010.
The Child Protection Week is observed in South Africa with the following objectives:
* To raise awareness within communities focusing on prevention initiatives on child protection services
* To strengthen, uphold and mobilise families, religious formations, traditional authorities and civil society towards a greater responsibility for the protection and care of children
* To raise awareness and educate children, parents and communities about child abuse and neglect with a special focus on child exploitation and child trafficking
* To create awareness on the Children’s Act No 38 of 2005 and the Child Justice Act No 75 of 2008 which came into effect on 1 April 2010.
The main focus this year is on the prevention of child exploitation and child trafficking as the Eastern Cape has been identified as a hub for these activities. The invitation is therefore extended for you to grace the briefing.
